Gardening Luxury Services is a local garden design, planting and maintenance team based on Willow Lane, founded in 2014. We handle full garden builds, seasonal upkeep, lawn care, tree and hedge work, and irrigation. Our standard is simple: every visit leaves the garden measurably better than we found it, with written notes on what changed.
What does Gardening Luxury Services actually do?
We split our work into three practices, and each one has its own crew. Design and build covers new gardens from a blank plot: hardscape, soil correction, planting plans, lighting. Maintenance covers scheduled visits, weekly or fortnightly, with a defined checklist per season. Restoration covers gardens that have been neglected for a year or more and need a reset before they can go on a maintenance plan.
A basic weekly maintenance visit for a small urban garden starts at £45. A full front-garden redesign, including hard landscaping and mature planting, typically runs between £6,000 and £22,000 depending on scope. We quote in writing before we start. No verbal estimates that drift.
Last April a client on Beech Grove, a retired teacher named Margaret, called us about a lawn she'd been told needed replacing. Cost quoted elsewhere: £3,200. We tested the soil, found compaction and a pH of 4.9, aerated it, top-dressed, and reseeded the bare patches. Total: £480. The lawn recovered in seven weeks. That's the kind of judgement call we'd rather make than sell a client something bigger.
Why does our standard matter more than our price list?
Most people ask about price first. That's the wrong first question. Ask instead how often the team returns to fix its own work. Our callback rate on planting jobs is under 4%, tracked internally since 2019, and we publish the number on quotes.
Healthy soil is the single biggest predictor of whether a garden thrives or fails. Around 33% of the world's soils are already degraded [1], and urban garden soil is often worse than agricultural soil because of compaction, contamination and imported fill. Our written standard includes:
- Every crew arrives with a printed visit sheet listing tasks specific to your garden and season.
- We photograph before and after on any job over two hours and email the photos the same day.
- Green waste leaves the site in covered bins, and 90% goes to a composting facility rather than landfill.
- Pesticide use is opt-in only, and we default to integrated pest management guidance from the Royal Horticultural Society [2].
- Any plant we install carries a one-year replacement guarantee if it fails from causes other than drought neglect.
- Invoices itemise labour, materials and disposal separately so you can see where the money went.
- We carry £5 million public liability insurance and share the certificate on request.

Should you actually hire a professional gardener?
Sometimes no. If you enjoy the work and have four hours a week, you don't need us. Hire us when the garden has become a source of guilt rather than pleasure, or when a specific job (tree work, drainage, hard landscaping) exceeds what's safe to do yourself. Try this: walk the garden with a notebook, list every task you've been avoiding for six months, and total the hours. If it's over 40, call someone.

What areas do you cover?
We serve within a 12-mile radius of our Willow Lane workshop. Some specialist jobs, like mature tree transplanting, we'll travel further for, with a mileage surcharge quoted upfront. If you're outside the radius, we're happy to recommend another team we trust.
How quickly can you start?
New maintenance clients usually start within two weeks. Design and build has a longer runway, typically six to ten weeks from signed quote to first day on site, because we order plants and hardscape materials in advance to avoid substitutions.
Do you work in winter?
Yes. Winter is when we do structural pruning, bare-root planting, hard landscaping and soil improvement. Roughly 40% of our design work happens between November and February because the ground is workable and clients aren't watching us trample beds.
Are you insured and accredited?
We hold £5 million public liability cover, and our two lead gardeners are RHS-qualified. Chainsaw operators carry current NPTC tickets. We'll email copies of any certificate before we start work if you ask, and we'd rather you ask.
